A beautiful aurora graces the skies above Donnelly Dome near Delta Junction, Alaska. The dome survived eons of glaciation and was once covered completely in ice. Today it stands as a familiar landmark to locals traveling along the Richardson highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks. (Fun fact: I have scars from a winter hiking adventure gone wrong on this dome as a kid). Keen observers can spot the Andromeda Galaxy in the full-definition version of this image.
