Before the Storm
Magic, New Mexico
This photo captures so much of what I strive for in photography; notice how clean the terrain is, virtually devoid of distraction all the way to the horizon miles away. Notice the strong tree, surviving in harsh conditions with no companions for miles; notice the smooth lines of the distant hills; and notice the staggering power of the cumulonimbus cloud as it rockets upward toward the stratosphere; notice the faintly purple wisps of the clouds in the upper left, sheered off by high altitude winds and destined to become cirrus clouds over someone else's view. I love the golden hues of the grasslands. I love this photo and I am proud to share the magic of this remote location.
I captured this on my way home from a different objective. I decided to chase some storms and was blown away by the results. This is actually not a single image, but three photos spliced to create a panorama. As with all of my photos, there is no "Photoshop magic." This lonely spot, far from home (mine and yours) had a magic that speaks for itself.
