Sandia Mountains, New Mexico
A year later and this immensely strong tree survives another harsh winter atop the Sandia Mountains. As with the other image of this tree, this photo is unretouched other than reducing the blue tint in the original in order to match the actual conditions.
At full size it is possible to see that snow is blowing horizontally across the image. The winds were powerful and the ambient temperature was in the low single digits. This was a hard-earned image and one I really enjoy. I love the simplicity and clean lines. I love the empty void beyond the tree, only ending thousands of feet below at the base of the mountain.
