Sandian Enchantment
Sandia Mountains, New Mexico
New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment in part because of scenes like this. Deep in winter I hiked the summit ridge of the Sandia Mountains as a storm buffeted the region. A heavy blanket of clouds covered the mountain and made navigating difficult. It was just above zero degrees and the wind chill was far colder. I stopped for a moment to consider options when for perhaps 20 seconds the clouds dissipated enough to allow this soft light through the trees. I quickly set up my tripod and snapped a single photo, hoping I hadn't missed it. This is the result.
A few people have asked if this is "Photoshopped" somehow to look like this. The answer is, very simply, No. I made minor adjustments to contrast and highlights and left it alone.
