Fortitude
Sandia Mountains, New Mexico
I tend to move quickly when I'm out shooting, especially in winter. But near the summit of the Sandia Mountains (10,600 feet) I had to stop for a bit to admire this very exposed tree, standing just feet from the western face of the mountain. I marveled at how it has managed to survive in a place so inhospitable to life; how many years of storms, droughts, and wind has this tree endured? And yet it lives on. Hats off to fortitude.
